  • Pew Research Center projects that when today’s young adults reach their mid-40s and 50s, 25% are likely to have never been married. How does the increasing numbers of adults choosing to remain single impact the future role of family in society?

Consider the following questions in your post.

  • Does the increase in individuals choosing to remain single change the role of the family as the most basic social unit upon which society is built? What roles do individual adults hold in society that are different than married couples?
  • How do single adults change the definition of family as a socially recognized group that forms an emotional connection and serves as an economic unit of society. As more people choose to remain single and build their connections with friends, romantic partners, mentors, etc., what changes happen to how families are formed, issues that are faced, and impacts on society.
