Module 14 Discussion: Sun City Boards’ Managers and Team Leaders

Post 1: Initial Post

Instructions

This posting should be a minimum of one short paragraph and a maximum of two paragraphs. Word totals for this post should be in the 100–200-word range. Whether you agree or disagree, explain why with supporting evidence and concepts from the readings or a related experience. Include a reference, link, or citation when appropriate.

Scenario

Sun City Boards has changed dramatically since Tom reached out for help. With your coaching, Tom has developed into an effective leader and communicator. The same can not be said of some of his managers and team leaders. Tom has asked you to structure a series of communication training workshops to develop his managers communication skills and, ultimately, business performance and employee satisfaction. His two requirements: the training should be active and participants should be able to implement learning immediately.

For Discussion

  1. As preparation for this discussion, review the Communication and Management section of the module.
  2. Conduct additional research on how to develop communication—and listening—skills.
  3. Based on your understanding of Sun City Boards’ culture, operating dynamics and growth plans, develop the outline for a 1–2 hour communications workshop for managers that will increase their ability to achieve one or more of the four fundamental roles of management communication:
    1. provide clarity
    2. build relationships
    3. create commitment
    4. define expectations

Posts 2 and 3: Respond to Classmates’ Posts

Instructions

After you have created your initial post, look over the discussion posts of your classmates and give at least two thoughtful responses to two different classmates (one per classmate).

A response posting should be a minimum of one short paragraph. Word totals for these posts should be in the 75–100-word range. Whether you agree or disagree, explain why with supporting evidence and concepts from the readings or a related experience. Include a reference, link, or citation when appropriate. The goal of your response posts is to extend discussions already taking place or pose new possibilities or opinions not previously voiced. Your goal should be to motivate the group discussion and present a creative approach to the topic.
