Now that you’ve gathered demographic and internal information about your audience, it’s time to look at how to use this information. The audience analysis information gets utilized before, during, and after your speech.
In this section, we’ll examine how knowing the audience allows the speaker to target gathering specific types of research that will appeal to the audience of the speech. This information will also be applied to the structure and organization of the speech and all the parts of its content, from vocabulary to visual aids. Using this information is truly an art form in and of itself, and sophisticated speakers use this data intentionally to motivate their audiences.
Secondly, we’ll look at how to adapt to audience feedback during the speech delivery itself. Skilled speakers are able to notice what is happening with their audience—from boredom to confusion to engagement—and adjust in the moment.
Lastly, we’ll identify some key ways to evaluate the success of the speech and hear back from the audience about how it went.
