Module 15 Assignment: 21st Century Timeline

Someday, a future generation is going to ask you about the events during your early life. For example, a child may eventually ask you, “Were you alive in 2008? What were things like during the Great Recession?” or “What was it like when Donald Trump was President?” Chances are, you were a child yourself or may not remember too much about some of these events of your lifetime, so now is your chance to review a few of the details.

For this assignment, you will create a timeline covering important social, political, and cultural events between the year 2000 and the present day. The timeline must include at least one or more bullet points of information about the following topics:

  • presidents (at least 2)
  • domestic cultural or social issues (at least 3)
  • foreign affairs (at least 2)
  • technology (at least 1)
  • wars (at least 1)
  • your personal experiences (at least 4)
  • other (at least 2)

The timeline needs to have at least 15 total points on it, each with some supporting details describing the event, whether that is directly on the timeline or in a space below it. These details do not have to be comprehensive, but just 1-3 sentences to let the reader know more about the context of the event. For example, don’t just write “Obama is elected president,” but add another sentence or two about his political party, his campaign promises, or the significance of the election. To make it more personal, include some key events from your own life on the timeline. You can author this in a program of your choosing, including Sutori, Timetoast, Timepath, Adobe, or even as a PowerPoint or document, as long as you can include some pictures and details about the events. The timeline should include at least 5 pictures. These pictures should be appropriately cited or from the public domain.
