Tony was upset with James, his employee, because James was not completing a new production schedule. Let\u2019s fast forward about three weeks and catch up with Tony and Sandra after another departmental meeting.\r\n\r\nSandra catches Tony and asks, \u201cHey Tony, how are things going with James? I sure was surprised that you were having trouble with him.\u201d\r\n\r\nTony gets a sheepish grin on his face and says, \u201cYou know what Sandra? You were right! I finally brought James into my office and asked him why he was ignoring my requests. He got a really confused look on his face and said he had no idea what I was talking about. He knew that I had asked about the production schedule a couple of times, but he didn\u2019t assume that meant I wanted him to prioritize that above other projects.\u201d\r\n\r\nTony can see that Sandra is relieved. He goes on to tell her that a couple days after he spoke with James, he came across an article on effective communication.\r\n\r\nTony remembered that effective communication means that the receiver understands the message as intended by the sender. If that doesn\u2019t happen, then real communication didn\u2019t occur. There are many barriers to effective communication, as you have learned in this module. A good communicator must be aware of the medium through which the message is being transmitted as well as the noise that exists in that environment.\r\n\r\nThe tools you have learned in this module will make you a better communicator in every aspect of your life.
