Consider adding a pre course survey to assess your student’s knowledge, skills, and dispositions before they begin your course.

Faculty Directions to Complete a Pre Course Survey:

1. Review this example of a Pre Course Survey from the student’s perspective created using Google Form (a faculty favorite app that is free in the Google Drive suite!).

2. Decide whether you want to copy, reuse, and customize the survey to use in your classes.

3. Follow the directives in the title of the Pre Course Survey to copy the survey to your Google Drive and make it your own.

4. Then select Form>>Go to live form to view it in the student user’s view. The student responses will be collected on the original spreadsheet in the order they respond. Here is an example. You may also choose to edit the form by selecting Form>>Edit Form and customizing the survey.

5. From the spreadsheet view, select Form>>Show summary of responses to view graphical representations and statistics of student answers . Here is an example (student names have been deleted for privacy).

6. Finally, use the survey’s data as formative feedback to assist you in best meeting the needs of your students.

7. Add your attribution to the survey in the Form>>Edit form section of the instructions which will populate in Pre Course Survey directions.

8. Customize the following directions to students by adding the URL of your form’s live view from the student’s perspective and delete all information above before your course is live:
