interpersonal communication <\/span><\/strong>is communication between individual people. We often engage in interpersonal communication in dyads<\/strong>, which means between two people. <\/span><\/p>\r\n

Interpersonal communication <\/span><\/strong>is a process of exchange where there is desire and motivation on the part of those involved to get to know each other as individuals. <\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Confirming and Disconfirming Climates <\/span><\/h2>\r\n

Confirming climates <\/span><\/strong>when we receive messages that demonstrate our value and worth from those with whom we have a relationship. <\/span><\/p>\r\n

Disconfirming Climates <\/span><\/strong>when we receive messages that suggest we are devalued and unimportant. <\/span><\/p>\r\n

Recognition Messages<\/span><\/strong>: messages either confirm or deny another person\u2019s existence <\/span><\/p>\r\n

Acknowledgement Messages<\/span><\/strong>: go beyond recognizing another\u2019s existence by confirming what they say or how they feel <\/span><\/p>\r\n

Endorsement Messages<\/span><\/strong>: Endorsement messages go one step further by recognizing a person\u2019s feelings as valid. <\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Conflict of Interest<\/span><\/strong>: arises when people disagree about a plan of action or what to do in a given circumstance <\/span><\/p>\r\n

Value Conflict<\/span><\/strong>: is a difference in ideologies or values between relational partners <\/span><\/p>\r\n

Cognitive Conflict<\/span><\/strong>: is the difference in thought process, interpretation of events, and perceptions. <\/span><\/p>\r\n

Goal Conflict<\/span><\/strong>: occur when people disagree about a final outcome. <\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Strategies for Managing Conflict\r\n<\/span><\/h2>\r\n

Dominating strategy<\/span><\/strong>, or win-lose approach, he\/she exhibits high\u00a0<\/span>concern for the self and low concern for the other person. <\/span><\/p>\r\n

Obliging style<\/strong>: <\/span>shows a moderate degree of concern for self and others, and a high degree of concern for the relationship itself. <\/span><\/p>\r\n

Compromising style<\/strong>: <\/span>is evident when both parties are willing to give up something in order to gain something else. <\/span><\/p>\r\n

Avoiding style<\/strong>: <\/span>people may suppress feelings of frustration or walk away from a situation. While this is often regarded as expressing a low concern for self and others because problems are not dealt with, the opposite may be true in some contexts. <\/span><\/p>\r\n

Integrating style <\/span><\/strong>demonstrates a high level of concern for both self and others <\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n
