1. Identify a course that your currently enrolled in, preferably a class other than SDV100 (unless this is your only course).
- Practice taking notes using one of the three methods from Chapter 4: Outline, Cornell, or Concept Map.
- You can choose to take notes on a chapter, video, podcast, or lecture.
2. Submit your notes as an attached image or document.
Tips: If you need to create an image of your notes, you can scan and save as a word document; you can take a picture with a camera and attach as an image; or take a picture using your phone, email it to yourself, and attach as a document or image. If you find that you cannot attach your notes, contact me for alternate instructions.
3. Answer the following questions:
- Which method did you practice, and why did you choose this note taking style as opposed to the other methods?
- How does this note taking method relate to your learning style?
- Do you think you might try the other note taking methods? If so, in what other courses do you think they would be useful?
- How do you feel your notes compare to the assigned readings or videos in preparing for exams?
- Reflecting on Chapter 5, what strategies do use for textbook reading? If you get distracted, what do you do to draw your attention back?
4. Be sure to include the course, type of medium you are taking notes from, and the note-taking method you chose.
