You can also complete the Interest, Values, and Skills assessments in the Virginia Education Wizard, which is a one-stop, online resource that provides information and tools about the following areas: assessments, career paths, college curriculum, and financial aid and college costs. The results of the assessments will help you identify possible occupations that match your interests, values, and skills.
Instructions for Accessing the Virginia Education Wizard
- Access the Virginia Education Wizard. (Each time you access the Wizard you will see an online guide named Ginny. If you do not wish to hear Ginny talk click on the “Turn Guide Off” link located near the middle of the screen. There is also a transcript available that is best viewed in Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox.)
- Select Career Assessment. Read instructions provided and press the Start button. A screen introducing you to the Interest Assessment should appear. Read the instructions provided and/or click on the play icon to view an online video about the assessment. Press the “Start Assessment” button when you are ready to begin the assessment. After you complete the assessment you should receive a list of occupations that are consistent with your interests.
- Next complete the Values Assessment by following the steps below.
- Click on “Assess Values” in the tool bar near the top of the screen.
- Read the instructions provided and/or click on the play icon to view an online video about the assessment. Press the “Start Assessment” button when you are ready to begin the assessment. After you complete the assessment you should be informed of your primary and secondary value types and receive a list of occupations that are consistent with your values.
- Next complete the Skills Assessment by following the steps below.
- This assessment requires that you have an active account with the Wizard. Click on “login” or “Create an account” to either access an account you have already created or create an account.
- Click on “Assess Skills” in the tool bar near the top of the screen.
- Read the instructions provided and/or click on the play icon to view an online video about the assessment. Press the “Start Assessment” button when you are ready to begin the assessment. After you complete the assessment you should receive a list of career clusters that may match your skills.
