Week 11 Overview

What You’ll Learn To Do: Identify and Apply Effective Communication Techniques

Communication is the activity of relaying information or ideas. Types of communication include verbal such as speaking or singing; and non-verbal such as written or gestures. In an online course, the focus is on non-verbal means of communication. Thus, it is important to recognize the appropriate use of written communication in both informal and formal styles. How should you address your instructor? When is it acceptable to use informal communication in class? What is Netiquette? Good communication skills will also help you interact effectively with others.

After you have completed this topic’s activities, you should be able to:

  • Identify elements of effective communication.
  • Demonstrate a properly written email.
