View the PsychSim Tutorial “Catching Liars” from on the Worth Publishers Student Center for Discovering Psychology to learn more about the psychology behind lie-detector tests and looking for visual cues on lying. The television program Lie to Me was based off of the idea that people can learn to read facial microexpressions and detect when another person is telling a lie. Although many criticize the human ability to actually detect lies through visual cues, psychologist Paul Ekman has done extensive research on the human face and how to better read emotions through even the slighted facial movements.
