A current events presentation is a way for students to practice summarizing information and utilize new vocabulary.

Directions for current events presentation:

• Students find 2 news stories on a topic
• Students give a summary of the news story,
  • Main idea
  • Three key supporting details.
• Prepare presentation slides as follows:
  • Slide #1 Title Slide (What is the news story? What is the source?)
  • Slide #2 Hook—picture only
  • Slides #3-7 Main idea and key detail slides
  • Slide #8 Conclusion—picture + prediction, suggestion, or call to action
• Presenters answer questions

NOTE: Presentations can also be done in pairs.
