Module 9 Discussion: Pre-Existing Knowledge

Step 1:  List three possible informative speech topics you are considering for your speech of information.

Step 2:  Post three questions, one for each of the topics from Step 1, that will help you identify your audience’s pre-existing knowledge on your topic.

Step 3: Answer at least three classmate’s questions from their Step 2 in a post.

Example Post 1:

The topics I am considering for my speech of information are the process of a bill becoming a law in the United States, how a hurricane is formed, and the effects of caffeine on the body.

Example Post 2:

What do you know about the process of a bill becoming a law? What prior knowledge do you have about the formation of hurricanes? What do you think are the effects of caffeine on the body?

Example Post 3:

I only know that the president signs bills into laws. I believe warm air combines with cold air to form hurricanes. I believe caffeine can have long term effects on sleep.
