In the first lesson, you learned that the verb ser is used with adjectives in order to describe the physical and personality attributes of people. In this section, we are going to expand on the uses of ser, as they pertain to describing people. You will learn how to ask people where they are from, to tell people where you are from, and to talk about different nationalities of many people.
Pedir información
In order to be able to hold a conversation with somebody, it is essential that you know how to formulate questions. One of the principal ways in which you demonstrate interest in another person is through requesting information about them. When other people request information from or about you, you will need to understand the basic forms of questions so that you recognize their requests and can thus respond appropriately.
In addition to being an important part of human interactions, questions are also extremely useful. To find out where things are, why things happen, how things or people are, what people do for a living or in their spare time, and many other things, you must know how to ask questions. Whether you are traveling, meeting new people, or talking with old friends, you will be asking many different kinds of questions. Sometimes you will have partial information and need a simple clarification, other times you will not have any information at all and will be requesting a lot of information. In either case, it is essential that you know the basic structures for forming questions.
