Hablar de la posesión

Just as in English, the verb “to have”teneris very frequently used. It is utilized in many different contexts, two of which you will learn in this lesson. One use of the verb tener is to express possessionto say what you or anyone else has or doesn’t have. Remember that you previously learned to express possession using ser de.

Hablar de la edad

Another very common use of the verb tener is to talk about age. As you know, age is a very common topic of conversation among family and friends. Just as in English, age can be a sensitive topic in Spanish. In other words, it is not very common to ask someone whom you don’t know very well how old he/she is, unless there are special circumstances, or the context of the conversation gives way for such a discussion. Of course, it is not too sensitive to ask children their age!
