Usos del verbo tener: posesión
The verb tener in Spanish means “to have.” Similar to the verbs you have just seen, tener does not follow the pattern of regular –er verbs and is irregular in the yo form of the verb. Below you can see the conjugation of tener.

One of the principal uses of tener is to express possession, just as we do with the verb “to have” in English.

Usos del verbo tener: edad
As you learned in the “Funciones” section, another very common usage of tener is to express the age of people. While English uses the verb “to be,” Spanish uses “to have.”
