Another basic skill in any language is the ability to identify people and thingsto describe your physical appearance and personality and those of others, and to describe things. Spanish, requires the verb ser to perform many of these tasks.
The verb ser has several different uses in Spanish. One of the most common uses of ser is to identify things, animals, and people. See the examples below.

Hablar de la existencia de personas y cosas
Hay allows you to say if something exists or not—in other words, if there is/are people or things in a certain place. For instance, through the use of hay, you can tell people what things there are in your classroom, house, or apartment.
