You learned to use the preterite to talk about things that happened in the past. The preterite is used to talk about past actions that happened within a concrete block of time, actions that may be viewed as having a fixed beginning and end.
- El domingo pasado preparé una paella.
- ¿Ya comiste en el nuevo restaurante peruano en la Plaza Mayor?
