In this lesson, you have seen the verbs preguntar and pedir. While both of these verbs mean to ask, they are used in different ways, for different things, and should not be confused. When you use the verb preguntar, you are asking a question about something, in terms of information. In other words, you use preguntar to ask where something is, who someone is, if someone knows how to do something or can do something. Pedir on the other hand, is used to ask for somethingthis may be food in a restaurant, or a favor; pedir is not used to ask a question. Below you will see a couple examples of these two verbs.
